A man in Bengaluru got beaten up and ended up with 18 stitches on his head after he stood up to a liquor seller for charging Rs 10 above the MRP (maximum retail price). The incident happened on January 2 around 4 pm when the 38-year-old man identified only as Trilokh went to buy brandy at Ganapathi Wines in Manjunath Nagar, the Times of India reported.

According to his complaint, Trilokh, a structural designer, was charged Rs 50 for a 90-ml bottle of brandy with an MRP of Rs 40.

“Whenever I went to the store, the cashier always charged Rs 10 extra. I told him to take the MRP as I was a regular customer and with it being a wine store, he was supposed to sell for MRP. He started scolding me filthily. I too shouted at him,” the structural designer told the publication. “During the argument, he took a cleaning mop and hit me on my head repeatedly. The other staff of the store also assaulted me. However, some customers intervened and stopped them.”

Trilokh told the police that according to the cashier, the store owner had directed him to collect extra from consumers. “He cursed me for questioning them,” he said.

The Bengaluru resident approached the police after he sought treatment from a nearby hospital for his head injuries and got the stitches.

A case of assault has been filed against the liquor store cashier and other staff, the police said.
