“Bihar Road Project Set to Transform Connectivity: A comprehensive road infrastructure initiative is on the horizon for the Seemanchal region in Bihar, as plans unfold to construct a four-lane highway spanning approximately 53.76 kilometers from Darbhanga to Jaynagar (NH-527B). The primary objective is to improve accessibility for local residents, facilitating smoother travel to Darbhanga Airport.
The proposed highway design includes the incorporation of seven small bridges and 35 culverts, strategically addressing concerns related to water accumulation during the monsoon season. Recognizing the importance of efficient drainage, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has initiated the tender process to select an agency responsible for ventilation clearance along the route.
Anticipated to kick off by April, this ambitious road construction project comes with an estimated cost of around 991.88 crore INR. The timeline for completion extends to 2026, indicating a significant infrastructure development endeavor. Notably, the majority of the road falls within Madhubani district, with a segment of approximately 15 kilometers traversing Darbhanga district.
Overcoming challenges that have hindered progress for the past 15 years, the Jaynagar-Darbhanga NH has been plagued by deteriorating conditions, prompting the need for extensive repairs and widening. The project, greenlit last year with DPR approval, has faced setbacks related to environmental clearances and land acquisition issues.
Considering the region’s vulnerability to floods, measures are being taken to mitigate potential water inundation risks along the route. The Ministry’s proactive approach includes initiating the tender process for an agency tasked with ventilation clearance, aiming to safeguard the road from adverse weather conditions.
As these transformative projects unfold, there is palpable anticipation for the positive impact they will have on connectivity, economic growth in the Seemanchal region of Bihar.”
