In a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday, approval was granted for a total of 14 proposals. Nitish Kumar has allocated funds for the Panchayati Raj department, aiming to construct new Panchayat government buildings in all 2165 gram panchayats across the state. The government has sanctioned a budget of ₹6010 crore for this initiative, with 1082 buildings planned for flood-affected areas and 1083 for regular areas.
Bihar, home to 8053 gram panchayats, will witness the construction of government buildings to facilitate elected representatives and staff. Each Panchayat government building will include seating for representatives, a gram court room, space for record preservation, a hall for committee meetings, a welcome room for citizens, residential quarters for key personnel, service centers for computerized services, storage, pantry, and toilets.
The cost of constructing a Panchayat building will be approximately ₹2.86 crore for each building in flood-affected areas, covering an area of 8924 square feet. In non-flood areas, the construction cost for a Panchayat government building covering 6600 square feet will be around ₹1.99 crore.
In another development, engineering students across 38 government engineering colleges in the state have been granted approval for physical mode internships. Students in the seventh semester of the four-year B.Tech program will receive a lump sum amount of ₹10,000 in exchange for an eight-week internship in government-run projects, prioritizing students based on their preferences.
Internship opportunities are available in various departments, including urban development, building construction, education, health, and energy. Students undertaking internships are required to submit a project report, which, upon evaluation by a committee, will result in the transfer of the stipulated amount to their bank accounts. Applications for internships must be submitted online through the designated portal.
It’s noteworthy that students participating in internships will be responsible for arranging their own laptops, while the concerned departments will provide necessary equipment and internet access at the internship site. The application process for seventh-semester students is facilitated through the online portal currently under development.
