Farmers in Uttar Pradesh have once again taken to the streets, protesting their demands. Despite attempting to march towards Parliament, the police halted them at the Noida Chilla border. The demonstrations have caused major traffic disruptions, with jams reported in various areas, including Mahajam in Sarita Vihar and on the Delhi-Noida expressway.

To accommodate the proposed march, traffic routes have been altered in some places, while efforts are being made to prevent the march through discussions with farmers. Senior officials and personnel are deployed at various locations to control traffic.

In response to the gathering of thousands of farmers and villagers, the Noida police have heightened security along their borders with Delhi. Rakesh Tikait, a prominent farmer leader, joined protesters in Greater Noida, where the Indian Farmers Union (BKU) members staged a demonstration outside the local administrative office. The protest in Noida is led by the All India Kisan Parishad, whose activists have been holding camps outside local administrative offices since December 2023.

The Noida police are conducting rigorous checks at various Delhi-connected borders, leading to slowed vehicular movement on routes such as the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and DND flyover.

Why are farmers protesting in Noida and Greater Noida? Since December 2023, farmers in these areas have been protesting against the acquisition of their land by local development authorities, demanding higher compensation and developed plots in return.
