In a recent development, the Bihar Education Department has imposed a freeze on the salaries of all vice-chancellors in the state. This decision extends to registrars and exam controllers as well. The move comes after a meeting on Wednesday, where none of the vice-chancellors from any university in Bihar participated.

Despite warnings from the Education Department, vice-chancellors chose to align with the directives of the Governor-cum-Chancellor. Only three representatives from two universities attended the meeting, prompting the Education Department to initiate action against absent vice-chancellors, registrars, and exam controllers.

Salary Freeze and Notices Issued

During the Education Department’s meeting on Thursday, a stern stance was taken against vice-chancellors who failed to attend the scheduled meeting. As a consequence, the salaries of all absent vice-chancellors, registrars, and exam controllers have been frozen until further notice. Additionally, a freeze has been imposed on university accounts, and notices have been issued to those who did not attend the meeting within two days, seeking an explanation.

Vice-Chancellors Absent from Meeting

Notably, the Wednesday meeting summoned all vice-chancellors from various universities. The Education Department explicitly communicated that their participation was mandatory. Furthermore, the issued letters to universities warned of strict action if vice-chancellors failed to attend.

Education Department Gathers Information from Registrars

On the day of the meeting, only three representatives from two universities attended, raising concerns in both the Raj Bhavan and the Education Department. Following the meeting, the Education Department officials contacted registrars to inquire about the absence of vice-chancellors. The registrar of Tilka Manjhi University provided reasons for their non-participation.

Two-Day Training Program on the Horizon

It is worth mentioning that the Education Department has scheduled a training program on March 2nd and 3rd. All vice-chancellors, registrars, and other officials have been invited to participate. However, the Chancellor has directed vice-chancellors not to attend this two-day seminar. Considering the current circumstances, there is uncertainty about the participation of vice-chancellors in this training program as well.”
