Lok Sabha election 2024: India to get a new government on 4 June

New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced on Saturday the schedule for the much-anticipated Lok Sabha elections 2024. The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to conduct the elections in 7 phases across the nation, with results slated to be announced on June 4.

During a press conference held in New Delhi, CEC Rajiv Kumar revealed that a staggering total of 49.7 crore males, 47.1 crore females, and 48,000 transgender voters are expected to cast their votes. Additionally, 1.8 crore first-time voters have been added to the electoral list, signifying a significant demographic shift.

Here’s a breakdown of the phase-wise polling schedule:

– Phase 1: April 19 – 102 parliamentary constituencies across 21 states

– Phase 2: April 26 – 89 constituencies across 13 states

– Phase 3: May 7 – 94 constituencies across 12 states

– Phase 4: May 13 – 96 constituencies across 10 states

– Phase 5: May 20 – 49 constituencies across 8 states

– Phase 6: May 25 – 57 constituencies across 7 states

– Phase 7: June 1 – 57 constituencies across 8 states

The Chief Election Commissioner assured the nation of peaceful and orderly elections, emphasizing the Election Commission’s commitment to upholding the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). He stated, “In the past 11 state polls, we’ve witnessed peaceful and violence-free elections with minimal need for repolls; moving forward, we aim to enhance this trend.”
