The Lok Sabha election frenzy has gripped Bihar as the Election Commission has announced the polling dates. With the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct across the country, several restrictions have been imposed in Bihar. Cases are now being registered for violations of the directives. In districts like Buxar, Purnia, East Champaran, and Sheikhpura, administrative actions have been initiated against unauthorized meetings and speeches. Additionally, in Madhepura district, a case has been registered for violation of laws regarding the use of loudspeakers.
In the past 24 hours, a significant number of cases have been filed. According to reports sent to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office from the districts, a total of 4,507 cases of wall writing, 20,551 cases of unauthorized poster placement, and 1,391 other cases have been registered. During inspections at various checkpoints, cash amounting to Rs. 17,91,000 has been seized, along with 59,432 liters of alcohol and contraband worth Rs. 71 lakhs.
Section 144 Imposed:
After the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct in Bihar, strict actions are being taken. Section 144 has been imposed in Patna and other districts. The use of loudspeakers has been restricted from 10 PM to 6 AM. Political parties and candidates are required to obtain permission for organizing public gatherings, processions, or rallies. They are also prohibited from publishing any objectionable posters, articles, photos, etc., or using religious places for political campaigning. Hate speech inciting communal sentiments is strictly forbidden, and any violation will be dealt with by the Election Commission.
Statement from the Patna DM:
Patna District Magistrate, Kapil Ashok, stated that the public display of any weapon, including firearms, bows and arrows, clubs, spears, or any lethal instruments, is strictly prohibited. The use of vehicles for election campaigning must be done in accordance with the procedures specified by the Election Commission, with prior approval from the competent authority.
