The Patna High Court has imposed a stay on the third phase of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE), impacting the appointment of 87,722 teachers. This decision was prompted by a paper leak incident in March that led to the cancellation of the initial exam.

Court Orders Weightage for Guest Teachers

Justice Anjani Kumar Sharan issued the stay while hearing petitions from Sandeep Kumar Jha and others. The court directed the state government to decide within a month on granting additional points to guest teachers based on their experience. The order specifies awarding five points per year of service, up to a maximum of 25 points. The court emphasized that since guest teachers and teachers from backward and extremely backward departments both perform teaching duties, guest teachers should receive similar benefits.

Impact on Examination Candidates

Originally, the BPSC advertised for 85,000 teacher positions on February 7, 2024, attracting 525,000 applicants for TRE 3. Despite plans to reschedule the examination in June following the paper leak, the High Court’s ruling has indefinitely postponed the recruitment process, delivering a significant blow to thousands of aspiring candidates.
