Patna: While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not yet officially declared the onset of the monsoon in Bihar due to technical reasons, heavy rains have already begun in Kishanganj and Araria, leading to pleasant weather in Patna and surrounding areas. Kishanganj experienced heavy rainfall for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, with precipitation ranging from 62 mm to 201 mm across various blocks. Araria recorded moderate rainfall. Weather experts consider this as the impact of the monsoon and anticipate formal announcement once rainfall is recorded in Bhagalpur.
Heavy Rains Expected from June 21
The IMD has forecasted sporadic rain across most parts of Bihar starting Thursday, with a significant increase in rainfall expected from June 21. This will lead to a continuous drop in temperatures, providing relief from the intense heat and enabling agricultural activities to commence. Over the past 24 hours, maximum temperatures have dropped by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. However, isolated areas in the southwest might still experience hot days on Thursday.
Heatwave Conditions Persist in Several Districts
On June 19, several parts of Bihar recorded heatwave conditions, with severe heatwaves in Gopalganj and Sheikhpura. Patna, Bhojpur, Buxar, Chhapra, Nawada, Arwal, Rajgir, Munger, Ziradei, Muzaffarpur, Jamui, and Banka also reported heatwaves. Aurangabad recorded the highest temperature in the state at 42.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday. On June 18, many regions experienced temperatures between 44 and 45 degrees Celsius.
Light Rain Brings Limited Relief, Increases Humidity
In Vaishali district, people found slight relief from the oppressive heat with light rain on Tuesday night, but the subsequent humidity caused further discomfort. On Wednesday, high humidity continued to trouble residents. The day recorded a maximum temperature of 42 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 30 degrees Celsius. People eagerly await more rain and the full onset of the monsoon to relieve the heat.
Weather Changes Expected, Light Rain Forecasted
Muzaffarpur is already witnessing changes in weather. After light rain late Tuesday night, the morning was quite normal, although the afternoon saw increased humidity. According to the meteorological department, weather changes are expected starting today, with light rain possible in some areas. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature recorded was 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 25.5 degrees Celsius.
