Another bridge collapses in Bihar, this time in Kishanganj

A portion of a 13-year-old bridge in Bihar’s Kishanganj district collapsed on Wednesday evening, cutting off around 40,000 residents in numerous villages from the mainland. This marks the fourth bridge collapse in Bihar within the past week.

The 70-meter-long and 12-meter-wide bridge, constructed under the Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Yojana in 2011 at a cost of ₹25 lakh, succumbed to the force of floodwaters following incessant rainfall in the region. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

Authorities have placed barricades on either side of the bridge to halt traffic.

The bridge is situated at Shrawan Chowk near Bansbari village in Bahadurganj block of Kishanganj district.”We have been monitoring the bridge and reported its condition to the department,” said Shrawan Sahni, executive engineer of the Rural Works Department (RWD).

“We visited the site on Wednesday evening and decided to completely stop traffic movement on the bridge.”Circle Officer (CO) Ashish Kumar added, “Traffic on the bridge has been stopped and guards have been deployed. The bridge was already damaged and only light traffic was allowed prior to the
