The time has come for India and the United States to shed their passive stances and boldly reorient their foreign policies towards Taiwan. The traditional adherence to the One China policy, a diplomatic tightrope ostensibly taken to appease Beijing, has become a straitjacket constraining these nations’ roles as global influencers. A recalibration towards overt political, diplomatic, and financial backing for Taiwan is not merely advisable, but crucial for safeguarding regional stability and upholding democratic values.

Both India and the United States boast democratic foundations that have long been champions of self-determination, individual freedoms, and sovereignty. In the face of China’s growing belligerence and expansionist tendencies, it is incumbent upon these nations to stand up for democratic values and support a vibrant democracy like Taiwan.

Politically, the adoption of a robust stance requires acknowledging Taiwan’s distinct identity and recognizing its right to international participation. As two major democracies, India and the United States must harness their influence to rally global support for Taiwan’s inclusion in international organizations and forums, such as the World Health Organization. This is not only an ethical obligation but also a strategic move to ensure that crucial global decisions are informed by a diversity of voices.

Diplomatically, it is high time to shed the cloak of ambiguity and extend genuine diplomatic recognition to Taiwan. By engaging directly with Taiwan’s leadership and formalizing diplomatic ties, India and the United States can reaffirm their commitment to democratic values and challenge the narrative of a hegemonic China dictating international relations. Such recognition would embolden other nations to follow suit, generating a formidable counterweight to China’s influence.

Financially, the economic prowess of India and the United States can play a pivotal role in bolstering Taiwan’s defenses and economic resilience. By providing financial aid, technological collaboration, and trade partnerships, both nations can invigorate Taiwan’s capacity to withstand external pressures and promote regional stability. Taiwan’s remarkable achievements in technology and innovation are invaluable assets that can benefit the global community.

While skeptics may argue that such a shift would antagonize China, the current geopolitical scenario necessitates bold moves rather than appeasement. China’s aggressive territorial claims, military posturing, and human rights violations are a threat not only to regional stability but also to the global order. India and the United States have a responsibility to curtail this expansionism and promote a rules-based international system.

Critics may point to economic interdependencies, but the reality is that the rise of China has unveiled the fragility of such interdependence. It is crucial to diversify economic partnerships and cultivate resilience in the face of potential economic coercion.

The facts and figures endorse this bold shift. Taiwan’s vibrant democracy, human rights record, and economic prowess deserve unflinching support. India and the United States must note that China’s own transgressions have led to a reassessment of the One China policy, with countries globally inching towards recognizing Taiwan’s sovereignty.

In conclusion, the time has arrived for India and the United States to transcend rhetoric and embrace a progressive stance that aligns with their democratic values. Supporting Taiwan is not only a moral imperative but a strategic necessity. By doing so, these nations can collectively shape a future where democracy, liberty, and the rule of law triumph over expansionism and coercion. The choice is clear – stand for democratic principles or acquiesce to authoritarian dominance.
