The state of Bihar continues to grapple with a scorching heatwave, even as sporadic rainfall occurred over the past two days in the state capital and limited parts of the region, specifically Sheikhpura and Jamui, which received 12.5mm and 4.0mm of rainfall, respectively.
The Patna Meteorological Centre forecasts isolated showers across the state until September 6. Nevertheless, high temperatures persist in various cities across Bihar. Notable temperatures include Buxar at 38.6 degrees Celsius, Vaishali at 38.6 degrees C, Aurangabad at 37.9 degrees C, Harnaut at 37.7 degrees C, Sheikhpura at 37.6 degrees C, and Nawada at 37.4 degrees C. Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 36.2 degrees C.
The Patna Meteorological Centre’s report highlights the continuing presence of the monsoon trough along the Himalayan foothills. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation over the northeastern Bay of Bengal and its vicinity persists, likely forming a low-pressure area. Consequently, rainfall is expected in the coming week.
The state has only received 577.5mm of rainfall from June 1 to September 3, falling short of the usual 795.9mm during this period, leading to a significant 27% rainfall deficit.
