In a remarkable feat that has etched her name in academic history, a 16-year-old Pakistani girl residing in London, Mahnoor Cheema, has achieved the highest number of General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) certificates ever recorded in the United Kingdom and the European Union. Mahnoor Cheema’s extraordinary academic prowess earned her accolades and recognition, with former Prime Ministers Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif felicitating her during a special ceremony in the UK capital.

Mahnoor Cheema’s exceptional achievement includes securing the top grade, denoted as A*, in a staggering 34 subjects, spanning diverse fields from Mathematics and Astronomy to French and Latin. This feat is nothing short of extraordinary, considering that the average student typically takes between nine and ten GCSEs, with eight being the norm. Mahnoor’s tenacity and ambition propelled her to quadruple the typical workload, showcasing her dedication to excellence.

Born to Barrister Usman Cheema and Tayyaba Cheema, whose origins trace back to Lahore, Mahnoor embarked on her academic journey in Lahore before her family relocated to the United Kingdom in 2006. She pursued her studies at Langley Grammar School in West London, where her passion for learning and her drive for excellence flourished.

Mahnoor’s brilliance extends beyond the realm of academics; she possesses an astounding IQ of 161, a testament to her intellectual prowess, placing her among the top 1 per cent of the world’s population in terms of intellectual ability. Furthermore, she has achieved the prestigious Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) certificate, distinguishing herself as one of the youngest individuals in the UK pursuing a music diploma.

Despite her numerous accomplishments, Mahnoor’s aspirations extend further. She harbors ambitions of studying medicine at the esteemed University of Oxford, and her academic journey is already propelling her towards this goal. At the tender age of 15, Mahnoor achieved remarkable scores in the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) and the Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT), both in the 99th percentile, showcasing her potential in the field of medicine.

The felicitation ceremony, attended by prominent figures, including Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif, recognized Mahnoor Cheema’s outstanding achievements as a source of inspiration for students from diverse backgrounds. Her remarkable success story serves as a testament to the limitless possibilities that education and determination can unlock.

In recognition of her achievements, the former prime ministers presented Mahnoor with a MacBook Pro laptop, symbolizing their pride in her remarkable accomplishments.

The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) is a crucial academic qualification in the UK, playing a pivotal role in determining a student’s future academic and career prospects, with many colleges and universities stipulating a minimum requirement of five GCSEs or above.

Mahnoor Cheema’s journey is not merely one of academic excellence; it is a testament to the boundless potential of determined individuals who aspire to achieve greatness.
