In an auspicious move, Parliament’s forthcoming special session, scheduled to commence on September 18, will initiate its proceedings within the confines of the existing parliamentary edifice. Subsequently, on the joyous occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, observed on September 19, the legislative activities will be seamlessly transferred to the newly inaugurated Parliament building, a momentous milestone celebrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28 of this year.

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats, in a statement to news agency PTI, conveyed that this session shall transpire without the customary Question Hour or the involvement of private members’ business. A total of five sittings have been slated, with detailed information regarding the provisional calendar forthcoming for members’ perusal.

The decision to convene this “special session,” spanning from September 18 to 22, was revealed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, who has intriguingly withheld the precise agenda, thus sparking widespread speculation.

“Amid Amrit Kaal, looking forward to having fruitful discussions and debate in Parliament,” expressed Minister Joshi, as anticipation builds for the imminent proceedings.

Typically, three parliamentary sessions are convened annually, comprising the Budget, Monsoon, and Winter sessions.

Recent developments further suggest the formation of a high-level committee tasked with examining and proposing reforms related to simultaneous polls, fueling conjecture that this special session could potentially be the final gathering of the present Lok Sabha.

As preparations unfold, the prospect of a group photograph involving Members of Parliament has ignited further curiosity, with some conjecturing that this development may be connected to an impending relocation to the newly erected Parliament building.

Intriguingly, the special session of Parliament remains shrouded in secrecy, with the exact agenda yet to be unveiled. However, with the shift to the new Parliament building coinciding with Ganesh Chaturthi, this event promises to be a momentous occasion in India’s legislative history. Stay tuned for updates as the special session unfolds.
