New Delhi: In a bid to fortify India’s mountainous road infrastructure against severe weather conditions, such as heavy rains and flooding, the government has extended an invitation to Swiss consultants. Drawing inspiration from Switzerland’s renowned highway construction techniques, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has reached out to Swiss firms for their expertise in crafting robust mechanisms to shield roads from extensive damage. This initiative comes in the wake of recent rainfall and flooding wreaking havoc on the highway network in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The move to tap into Swiss knowledge in road construction techniques underscores the commitment of the Indian government to enhance the resilience of vital transportation links, particularly in regions susceptible to adverse climate events. By collaborating with Swiss experts, India aims to devise innovative solutions that will enable its mountain roads to endure harsh environmental challenges and ensure the safety and convenience of its citizens.
