McCarthy announced, “I am directing our House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry,” citing allegations that President Biden misled the American people regarding his son Hunter’s overseas business activities. McCarthy asserted that House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible claims concerning President Biden’s conduct, suggesting a troubling culture of corruption.
The business dealings of Hunter Biden during his father’s tenure as Vice President under the Obama administration have long been a focal point of Republican scrutiny. However, it’s important to note that no substantiated evidence has emerged thus far implicating the elder Biden in any unlawful activities.
The decision by Kevin McCarthy to initiate an impeachment inquiry comes after persistent pressure from the right-wing faction of his party, which remains staunchly loyal to former President Donald Trump.
