Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has strongly criticized the Congress party for its alleged indifference towards the Northeastern region and its people. His remarks came in response to a recent social media post by the Congress that depicted a distorted map of India, conspicuously omitting the entire Northeastern region.

The controversial social media post, shared by the Congress on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, portrayed a skewed representation of India’s map, notably excluding the Northeast from its borders. Himanta Biswa Sarma, in response to this post, insinuated that the Congress might have already made a surreptitious deal to cede the Northeastern territory to a foreign nation. He raised questions about Rahul Gandhi’s foreign trips and even hinted at the possibility of Sharjeel Imam, a former student activist jailed under UAP(A) sections, gaining membership within the party.

Speaking to ANI, Chief Minister Sarma urged people across the country to take cognizance of the Congress’s actions and respond resoundingly in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

He expressed his concerns regarding the deliberate act of presenting an India map that excluded the cherished Northeastern region, describing it as an intentional anti-national action. Sarma emphasized that both the people of the Northeast and the rest of the country should take note of this incident and deliver a fitting response during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections next year.

The controversial post by the Congress was a creative adaptation of a renowned scene from the Bollywood movie ‘Deewar,’ featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor. In the scene, Shashi Kapoor famously states, “Mere paas maa hai” (Mother is with me). The Congress shared an animated video of this scene, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi depicted as Amitabh Bachchan and Rahul Gandhi portrayed as Shashi Kapoor.

The video featured PM Modi stating, “I have ED, police, power, money, friends… what do you have?” To which Rahul Gandhi responds, “The entire country is with me.”
