In a scathing rebuke to opposition factions, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde issued a stinging critique, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not be vanquished by “sheep and goats.” Shinde, while addressing a Hindi channel, articulated, “The opposition’s sole preoccupation appears to be the defeat of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There seems to be an absence of any substantive opposition.” Employing an animalistic analogy, he continued, “I wouldn’t label the opposition as vultures, but the unity of sheep and goats is insufficient to mount a challenge against a lion in the jungle. A lion remains a formidable force and shall continue to rule.”

Shinde took pride in his government’s strength, affirming, “Following Ajit Pawar’s decision to align with us, my administration (comprising BJP-Shiv Sena-Ajit Pawar faction of NCP) commands the support of over 215 MLAs, ensuring the stability of our government.” It’s noteworthy that Maharashtra contributes 48 Members of Parliament to the Lok Sabha, the second-largest representation in the nation, trailing only Uttar Pradesh, which sends 80 MPs.

Meanwhile, Shinde subtly directed criticism at his predecessor, Uddhav Thackeray, stating, “We are dedicated to serving the people, and ultimately, it is the people who will decide whether they prefer leaders who work tirelessly for their benefit or those who merely occupy positions without action.”

In response to inquiries regarding allegations of the Enforcement Directorate targeting opposition leaders, Shinde emphasized, “The ED takes action against those suspected of engaging in corrupt practices; it does not engage in arbitrary harassment.”
