Renowned entrepreneur Elon Musk has levied strong accusations against the George Soros Foundation, alleging their intent to undermine Western civilization. These statements came as Musk prepared to engage in a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the Californian front.
Musk’s claims surfaced in response to a user-shared video depicting individuals arriving on Italy’s Lampedusa Island from North Africa, dubbing it a “George Soros-led invasion” of Europe. In a pointed retort, Musk, owner of X, stated, “The Soros organization appears to harbor nothing short of aspirations for the dissolution of Western civilization.”
George Soros, a Hungarian-American magnate and philanthropist, has repeatedly been the subject of baseless antisemitic conspiracy theories. His Open Society Foundations, which actively supports civil society organizations, particularly those addressing the welfare and security of migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers, frequently finds itself in the crosshairs of far-right factions.
Critics have accused Musk of amplifying antisemitism on his platform, a charge he vehemently denies. His forthcoming discussion with Netanyahu was publicly anticipated to center on artificial intelligence technology rather than his ongoing feud with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) concerning antisemitism on X.
However, recent reporting from The Washington Post suggests that this meeting may be the latest maneuver in a broader campaign led by Musk’s Jewish associates to combat mounting criticism regarding the surge in antisemitic rhetoric on X. Musk has not shied away from legal threats against the ADL, a US-based civil rights organization dedicated to combating antisemitism and bigotry. He has accused the ADL of attempting to “sabotage” the platform by making “false accusations of antisemitism against both it and me.”
Multiple civil rights groups, including the Center for Countering Digital Hate and the ADL, have released findings indicating a troubling increase in hate speech within the confines of X under Musk’s stewardship. The situation continues to be closely monitored by observers worldwide.
