In an update to the travel advisory for India, Canada has issued a cautionary statement amidst escalating tensions. Canadian citizens have previously been cautioned against traveling to regions such as Jammu and Kashmir, with specific emphasis on Assam and violence-affected Manipur.

Explicitly addressing the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the advisory states, “The security landscape in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir remains highly volatile. It is marked by a heightened risk of confrontational protests, civil unrest, and instances of terrorism and insurgency.”

The advisory further underscores, “Frequent clashes between insurgent elements and security forces continue to occur. Terrorist attacks targeting security personnel have resulted in civilian casualties. The potential for further such incidents remains significant. Travelers may inadvertently find themselves in precarious situations.”

Regarding the northeastern states of Assam and Manipur, the advisory notes, “Several extremist and insurgent groups maintain an active presence in these regions. They routinely target local government entities and security forces, often resorting to various criminal activities to sustain their operations. Ethnic tensions within these states can also contribute to conflicts and civil disturbances.”

This updated advisory serves as a reminder of the volatile conditions in certain regions of India and underscores the need for travelers to exercise caution and remain informed about the prevailing circumstances.
