In a recent statement, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Vice-President Baijayant Panda made a striking proposal, suggesting that India should extend a helping hand to the Quebec independence movement, much like Canada has displayed tolerance towards the Khalistani cause. This statement arises amidst the ongoing discord between India and Canada, triggered by the controversial killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Taking to the platform formerly known as Twitter, Panda advocated for India’s involvement in the Quebec freedom movement. He even proposed the consideration of an online referendum for Quebec’s quest for independence, characterizing it as a gesture of goodwill towards Canada.

Panda further emphasized, “Perhaps we should also offer Indian soil for the Quebec independence movement’s events commemorating their sacrifices, bombings, and assassination attempts (again, just like Canada has been so considerate to allow for the Khalistanis).”

He went on to suggest that Indian leaders should engage in dialogue with elected Canadian officials who have expressed support for Quebec’s independence. In a conciliatory tone, Panda expressed his willingness to host such an interaction in Delhi to strengthen the spirit of Indo-Canadian friendship and cooperation.

The rift between India and Canada stems from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations regarding the possible involvement of Indian agents in Nijjar’s assassination. This diplomatic dispute has led to tit-for-tat expulsions of diplomats, escalating tensions between the two nations.

The Quebec freedom movement, also known as the Quebec sovereignty movement, seeks to achieve Quebec’s independence from Canada. Supporters of the movement argue that Quebec could better serve its economic, social, ecological, and cultural development as an independent state, aligning with the principles of ‘Quebec nationalism.

As this international diplomatic row unfolds, it remains to be seen how both nations will navigate their differences and potentially address the issues raised by Baijayant Panda.
