New York: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, emphasized the significance of the Jammu and Kashmir issue as a pressing challenge to regional security and stability. Speaking at the meeting of the Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Prince Faisal underlined the potential consequences of leaving the Jammu and Kashmir issue unresolved.

In his address, Prince Faisal warned that failing to find a resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir issue could lead to increased instability in the region. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting Islamic nations in safeguarding their Islamic identity and dignity, particularly those affected by conflicts like the residents of the Jammu and Kashmir region.

Prince Faisal also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s active role in mediating efforts to reduce the conflict and promote a peaceful solution. This approach aligns with Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for Islamic nations facing challenges.

Additionally, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hussein Ibrahim Taha, discussed the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir during the meeting. He called for concrete steps by the international community to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir conflict in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and OIC’s initiatives.

Taha expressed his gratitude to the Secretary-General and members of the Contact Group for their consistent support in addressing the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and highlighted various human rights violations in the Indian-occupied region.

The meeting coincided with the fourth anniversary of “illegal and unilateral measures taken in the Indian-occupied state of Jammu and Kashmir.” The OIC continues to advocate for a peaceful resolution to this long-standing dispute.
