BERN: In a recent statement, Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer revealed his enduring connection to the tennis community, even after his retirement from the sport last year. Federer expressed his interest in potentially captaining Team Europe at the prestigious Laver Cup, an event where he has played a pivotal role in securing victories for his team in the past. However, he emphasized that there are no immediate plans to replace the current captain, Bjorn Borg.

Having contributed significantly to Team Europe’s three Laver Cup titles, Federer will make a special appearance at this year’s event in Vancouver. The occasion will also serve as a commemoration of the one-year anniversary of his final competitive match.

Recalling his participation alongside his longtime rival Rafael Nadal, Federer reflected on the experience. In that memorable match, they faced off against Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe of Team World, ultimately losing as Team World claimed the title.

Federer shared his deep connection to Team Europe, stating, “There’s something in me that’s Team Europe. I’m happy if World wins, don’t get me wrong, but somehow I can feel it deep inside, I want Europe to win.”

While discussing his future involvement, Federer expressed his affinity for the tennis world, saying, “I like being in the tennis sphere. Maybe one day I’ll be the captain of the team.” He clarified that there are currently no concrete plans for such a role but added, “I think that could be quite nice.”

The tennis community continues to hold Federer in high regard, and his potential future as a captain would undoubtedly be met with enthusiasm.
