New York – In a significant diplomatic gathering, the foreign ministers of the Quad nations, comprising India, Australia, Japan, and the United States, convened on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session. This high-level meeting, attended by distinguished delegates, showcased unwavering commitment to the fundamental principles enshrined in the UN Charter.

United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, emphasized the pivotal role of the Quad in fostering a vision of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific. The group’s collective concern for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine was underscored, with a resounding call for a “comprehensive, just, and enduring peace” in the region. Notably, a firm stance against the use or threat of nuclear weapons in this context was unanimously adopted.

The Quad nations jointly condemned North Korea’s destabilizing ballistic missile launches and its continued defiance of UN Security Council resolutions regarding nuclear weapons. Expressing shared apprehension over the multifaceted crisis in Myanmar, they unitedly called for an end to the ongoing violence.

Anticipating future engagements, the Quad foreign ministers have scheduled their next meeting to take place in Japan in 2024.

This assembly of diplomatic minds underscores the growing importance of the Quad as a forum for fostering stability, cooperation, and shared values in the Indo-Pacific region.
