In a noteworthy development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) disclosed on Friday that the highly anticipated T20 World Cup in 2024 will be hosted by seven distinguished Caribbean nations. Among the chosen hosts are Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago, showcasing the region’s rich cricketing heritage.
The privilege of hosting this prestigious event, slated for June 2024, was bestowed upon the West Indies and the United States in November 2021, signifying the global appeal of the sport.
Adding to the illustrious list, Dominica, Guyana, St Lucia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines have also been selected as hosts for what promises to be a cricketing spectacle of epic proportions.
Geoff Allardice, the Chief Executive of the ICC, lauded the decision, asserting that these matches would once again provide cricket enthusiasts with the unparalleled opportunity to savor the game in the vibrant Caribbean setting.
Of particular significance is the fact that the forthcoming tournament will mark the inaugural edition to feature an unprecedented 20 participating teams, underscoring the ever-growing popularity and inclusivity of the T20 format.
Notably, matches will extend beyond the Caribbean shores, with fixtures set to take place in iconic locations such as New York, Florida, and Texas, further enhancing the global reach and impact of this marquee cricketing event.
