Nawada, Bihar: The Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Scheme, a flagship initiative of the Central Government, has allegedly become a breeding ground for corruption in Nawada district. Several prominent figures in the district have been accused of profiteering from this scheme, despite numerous complaints and attempts to resolve the issue through official channels.

For the past two years, hundreds of women in Nawada district have faced immense difficulties due to corruption within the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Scheme. Despite their relentless complaints to officials and even the Chief Minister, no significant progress has been made in addressing the issue. Frustrated with the lack of action, some affected individuals have turned to the High Court for intervention.

This scheme, intended to empower individuals by providing employment opportunities, has reportedly been manipulated by unscrupulous brokers for personal gain. Despite substantial evidence, the perpetrators of this corruption have not faced any consequences.

Efforts to address the issue have included appeals from senior public representatives of both ruling and opposition parties, yet the problem persists. Even the current Member of Parliament for the district, Mr. Chandan Singh, took steps to address corruption within the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Scheme. He wrote letters to the Finance Minister and the Prime Minister Letter Number CS/MP-LS/336/2022 dated 21-11-2022 and CS/MP-LS/590/2023 dated – 28/06/2023 respectively, requesting high-level investigations into the matter. Unfortunately, these efforts have yielded no results, and the alleged wrongdoers continue to act with impunity.

To make matters worse, employees of the District Industries Office are reported to be threatening new applicants, pressuring them to comply with corrupt practices. Applicants are told that only those who pay bribes will receive loans, and any complaints will ultimately be directed back to the same corrupt officials. This apparent endorsement of corruption by local authorities has left the victims feeling helpless and frustrated.

The affected women of Nawada district have resolved not to remain silent until those responsible for this corruption are held accountable. They are determined to seek justice and ensure that the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Scheme serves its intended purpose of empowering individuals and fostering economic growth.

The continued silence of higher authorities on this matter raises concerns about the efficacy of anti-corruption measures within government schemes. The victims of this corruption remain hopeful that their voices will be heard, and justice will prevail.
