Dengue Cases in Bihar Surge to 6,146 in September, Highest in Five Years”

PATNA: The state of Bihar is grappling with a concerning escalation in dengue cases, with a staggering 6,146 cases reported in September alone, marking the highest number for this month in the past five years, as per data from the state’s health department.

In the current year, Bihar has already recorded 6,421 dengue cases, with a staggering 6,146 of those cases reported just in the month of September. This figure is three times higher than the 1,896 cases reported in the same month last year.

Friday saw another 416 cases being reported in the state. The capital city of Patna recorded the highest number with 177 cases, followed by Munger with 33 cases, Saran with 28 cases, Bhagalpur with 27 cases, and Begusarai with 17 cases.

The National Center for Vector Borne Disease Control of the Union Health Ministry has documented seven dengue-related fatalities in Bihar as of September 17 this year.

As per data from the health department, the total dengue cases reported in the state last year amounted to 13,972.

Currently, 295 individuals are undergoing treatment at 12 government hospitals across the state as of September 30. Among them, 127 patients are being treated at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur, 39 at VIMS in Pawapuri, and 28 at Patna Medical College and Hospital.
