In a recent development, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has addressed the arrest of MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, a member of the ally Congress party in Punjab. Kejriwal clarifies that his party’s mission is centered around combating the pervasive issue of drug addiction rather than targeting any specific party or leader.

MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira faced arrest by the police due to his alleged involvement in a 2015 drugs case. During his visit to Patiala, Kejriwal urged all political parties to rally behind the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in their resolute fight against the drug epidemic.

In a passionate speech to the public, Kejriwal emphasized the significance of holding drug traffickers accountable for their actions. He questioned, “Whether drug traffickers should be arrested or not. Whether drug traffickers should be put behind bars or not?”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was resolute in conveying that his party’s stance transcends political rivalries, asserting, “Our fight is not against any leader. We are not against anyone. We are against drugs.”

Kejriwal shed light on the severe drug crisis plaguing Punjab, describing its destructive impact on the youth and an entire generation. He firmly stated that the state cannot tolerate drug trafficking under any circumstances. Moreover, he called upon all political parties to unite in the battle against drugs, urging them to take action against any leaders involved in drug-related activities.

In his address, Kejriwal acknowledged the history of rampant drug addiction among Punjab’s youth, which had even been depicted in various films. He commended Bhagwant Mann, the current leader of Punjab, for his government’s efforts to combat the drug menace in the state.

The arrest of Congress MLA Khaira by the Punjab Police had sparked controversy, with Congress leaders denouncing it as political vendetta. Kejriwal’s appeal for bipartisan support in the fight against drugs adds a new dimension to the ongoing debate surrounding drug-related issues in Punjab.
