In the latest Ministry of Civil Aviation report, Akasa Air leads the on-time performance (OTP) matrix for November 2023 with an OTP of 78.2%. Indigo secures the second position at 77.5%, while SpiceJet lags with the lowest OTP of 41.8%. Vistara claims the third spot with a 72.8% OTP, and Air India records the second-lowest at 62.5%.
The OTP calculation includes data from four metro airports – Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. The overall cancellation rate for scheduled domestic airlines in November 2023 was 0.73%. Fly Big reported the highest cancellation rate at 7.64%, while Air India had the lowest at 0.10%. Indigo reported a cancellation rate of 0.90%.
Passenger complaints in November 2023 totaled 601, with a complaint rate of approximately 0.47 per 10,000 passengers. Indiaone Air reported the highest complaints per thousand passengers at 99.1, while Vistara and Indigo had rates of 0 and 0.1, respectively. Flight-related issues accounted for 54.6% of complaints, with other significant causes including refunds, baggage, and customer service.
From January to November 2023, domestic airlines witnessed a 25.09% annual increase in passengers, reaching 1382.34 lakhs from 1105.10 lakhs in the corresponding period the previous year, marking a 9.06% monthly growth.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Gen. (Dr) V. K. Singh (Retd), stated that airfares operate on a dynamic system influenced by demand and supply forces, with various factors contributing to fare determination. Government regulations do not directly set airfares, allowing airlines to set fares in accordance with operational feasibilities while complying with outlined regulations.
