Patna, Chandrika Yadav, a prominent Bihar Congress leader, has taken legal action against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Dayanidhi Maran, demanding an apology within 15 days for Maran’s alleged derogatory remarks about people who study only Hindi in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The legal notice warns of legal proceedings if an apology is not issued within the stipulated time.
Yadav emphasized that he took this action in his personal capacity and clarified that it is not associated with the Bihar Congress. He expressed his concerns about Maran’s comments, considering them an attack on the self-respect and pride of Biharis and their significant contributions to the development of various states.
This development follows Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav’s condemnation of Maran’s statements, describing them as reprehensible. In a viral video, purportedly from 2019, Maran is heard making remarks about job prospects based on language proficiency, with specific reference to those who study only Hindi.
While the video’s authenticity could not be independently verified by Hindustan Times, Maran’s comments have triggered strong reactions from political leaders. The RJD, JD(U), and DMK are all part of the Opposition’s INDIA bloc.
Chandrika Yadav highlighted the achievements of Biharis in prestigious positions across various professions and asserted that Maran’s statements do not reflect the reality. He referred to a past case where a complaint filed by him led to the conviction of former Jehanabad MP Arun Kumar for remarks against Nitish Kumar.
The DMK, responding to the controversy, clarified that the remark was from a 2019 video and has been misconstrued. They stated that Maran’s intention was to convey the global use of English in white-collar jobs. The party accused the BJP of peddling a false narrative to tarnish the DMK’s image.
As the situation unfolds, Chandrika Yadav remains firm in his stance, prepared to pursue legal action if the demanded apology is not received within the specified timeframe.
