Appointed teachers have been granted significant relief by the Patna High Court. According to the court’s decision, teachers who have not passed the competency exam or have not appeared for it will still retain their positions. The Patna High Court ruled in favor of such aspiring teachers, stating that their jobs will not be terminated.
Prior to this, the bench of Chief Justice KV Chandran had reserved the judgment on this matter, which was delivered today on March 15, 2024. Additionally, Rule-12 under the appellate authority has also been dismissed, meaning the authority will also continue to exist.
It’s worth mentioning that the committee chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Education Department had recommended to the government that teachers who are absent from the exam five times or fail it consecutively for five times should have their jobs terminated. After the decision of the ACS, appointed teachers had begun protesting against this ruling.
Furthermore, the results of the first competency exam have been released. A total of 148,845 teachers from Class 1 to 5 had appeared for the exam, out of which 139,110 teachers have passed. Similarly, 23,873 teachers from Class 6 to 8 had appeared, out of which 22,941 have passed.
