As a key component of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s visionary projects, the meticulously designed Bapu Tower stands tall in the Gandhi Maidan area of Patna. The 120-foot structure, representing environmental management and sustainable development, is now complete and set for inauguration on February 4. The Building Construction Department is currently giving it the finishing touches.
The foundation stone for Bapu Tower was laid on October 2, 2018, with an initial completion deadline of November 28, 2021. Given delays, the deadline was extended to December 31, 2022, and further extended to the end of June 2023. Now, the construction is successfully concluded, and the tower is scheduled for inauguration on February 4.
Bapu Tower incorporates green technology, being the first building in the country to have an exterior covered with copper, imparting a radiant glow, especially when illuminated at night. The tower will showcase significant events from Mahatma Gandhi’s life, his principles, role in the freedom struggle, his association with Bihar, and the commendable efforts of the Bihar government to instill his ideals among the masses.
Covering an area of seven acres, with a total constructed area of 10,503 square meters, Bapu Tower includes various galleries, a research center, a lounge for special guests, and administrative offices. The tower’s exhibitions vividly depict Gandhi’s biography, education, ideals, values, and his connection with Bihar. It proves to be a valuable resource for children, students, researchers, and enthusiasts interested in Gandhian principles.
Visitors can access Bapu Tower through Gate Number One on Gardani Bagh Main Road, with parking facilities for around 200 vehicles available within the premises.
