In a significant development, Bihar’s State Election Commission has released the final electoral list for the upcoming 2024 assembly elections. The data reveals a noteworthy increase in the total number of qualified voters, reaching 7,64,33,329. This marks a substantial rise of 12,09,347 compared to the figures published the previous year.

The surge in voter numbers can be primarily attributed to the addition of new electors within the age group of 19-29 years. This demographic saw a substantial growth, contributing 1,60,61,649 new voters during the current year.

Interestingly, while this age bracket experienced a boost, all other age groups witnessed a decline in the number of voters. Particularly, the age group of 70-79 years recorded the most significant reduction, with a decrease of 2,25,554 voters compared to the previous year.

Moreover, a detailed examination of the electoral data reveals nuances in various segments. The count of third gender voters has decreased to 2,290, reflecting a decline of 16 individuals compared to the figures from the preceding year.

The segment of service voters, however, saw a marginal increment, reaching 1,67,469. This represents a rise of 472 compared to the strength recorded in the electoral roll of the previous year.

In terms of gender representation, the sex ratio among the electorate has witnessed a nominal improvement. The current data shows 909 women voters for every 1000 male voters, a slight increase from the 907 ratio reported last year.

Breaking down the overall elector count, the data discloses that 4,00,29,136 are male voters, showcasing an increase from the 3,94,50,370 recorded in 2023. On the female front, there are 3,64,01,903 voters, marking a rise from the 3,57,71,306 counted in the previous year. This indicates a notable surge of 5,78,766 male voters and 6,30,597 female voters in the current year.

A closer look at the electoral dynamics reveals that a special summary revision at the district level played a crucial role. During this process, a total of 28,95,191 new electors were added to the list, while 16,85,844 names were removed. The removals were attributed to various reasons, including deaths and duplications.

It is important to note that the special summary revision of the electoral roll commenced on October 28 of the preceding year and entertained claims for the addition of fresh names until January 1 of the current year.

This surge and demographic shifts in the electoral roll provide a comprehensive understanding of the evolving voter landscape in Bihar, setting the stage for the upcoming assembly elections.
