“Cyber criminals have defrauded 10,040 people in Jharkhand, swindling them out of ₹6788.98 lakh over the course of a year, from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. The Central Home Ministry has compiled data on complaints filed regarding cyber fraud and the amount involved across various states. According to the statistics gathered, Maharashtra leads the country in cyber fraud cases, with 1,25,153 complaints registered, involving a total defrauded amount of ₹99,069.22 lakh. Karnataka follows closely behind, with 64,301 complaints and ₹66,210.02 lakh lost to fraud. Gujarat ranks third, with 1,21,701 complaints and losses amounting to ₹65,053.35 lakh during the mentioned period. Other states like Haryana and Delhi also feature prominently in the list of cyber fraud cases. In Haryana, 76,736 complaints were filed, resulting in a loss of ₹41,924.75 lakh, while Delhi saw 58,748 complaints, with losses totaling ₹39,157.86 lakh. Bihar and Jharkhand occupy the seventh and tenth positions, respectively, in the list. The compiled data sheds light on the widespread prevalence of cyber fraud across the country, prompting authorities to take necessary measures to combat this growing threat.”
