In a significant development, the Bihar state government has announced a resolute move to implement a 10% reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) within the realms of judicial services and state-run law colleges and universities. This pivotal decision transpired on the heels of the government’s release of the initial dataset from Bihar’s comprehensive caste survey.

The decisive move was formally ratified during a cabinet meeting presided over by the esteemed Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, as per reports from news agency PTI.

Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet Secretariat), S Siddhartha, remarked, “The cabinet has greenlit modifications to the guidelines of the State Judicial Services, 1951, paving the way for a 10% reservation allocation in the judicial services sector and extending this provision to state-operated law institutes and universities,” as cited by PTI. A comprehensive notification elucidating these amendments will be duly issued by the pertinent department in the near future, Siddhartha added.

In tandem with this landmark announcement, the state cabinet has given its seal of approval for the construction of 100 veterinary hospitals across the state, with each of these facilities poised to serve as training centers as well. A substantial allocation of Rs 225 crore has been earmarked for this purpose in 17 different districts, according to Siddhartha.

Furthermore, the cabinet has greenlighted the creation of an additional 30 clerk positions to facilitate the handling of matters within the ambit of the Consumers Affairs Department, Siddhartha disclosed.

The introduction of this reservation quota for EWS segments in the legal and educational domains underscores the government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and equitable opportunities in Bihar’s societal landscape.
