In a significant development at the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Monday, the JD(U)-led government, under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, secured a vote of confidence. A total of 129 legislators voted in favor, while the opposition received zero votes. Prior to this, a proposal to remove the current Assembly Speaker, Avadh Bihari Choudhary, was passed with a clear majority. The motion of no confidence against the present Speaker was brought forth by BJP’s Nand Kishor Yadav and HAM’s Jitan Ram Manjhi, garnering 125 votes in support and 112 against. As a result, the position of the Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker is now vacant.

There are indications that BJP legislator Nand Kishor Yadav might become the new Speaker, as he is set to file his nomination on Tuesday at 10:30 AM.

BJP’s Return to the Speaker’s Role

Once again, the BJP has clinched the position of the Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker in the NDA government. In the previous NDA tenure, BJP’s Vijay Kumar Sinha served as the Speaker, and this time he has been appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister. The decision to appoint BJP legislator Nand Kishor Yadav as the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly has been finalized.
