Swedish automaker Volvo Cars announced a substantial 31% increase in its car sales in India, reaching 2,423 units in the calendar year 2023. This growth is attributed to the success of the XC60 model.

In the previous year, Volvo Car India had retailed 1,851 cars domestically in 2022, according to a company statement.

The locally assembled all-electric XC40 Recharge performed exceptionally well, contributing to the impressive sales figures with 510 units sold during the stated period. The XC60, identified as the top-selling model, witnessed a significant surge, resulting in 921 deliveries in 2023.

The C40 Recharge, introduced in September 2023, also garnered positive response, accounting for 180 units within a short period. The states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu saw 100 deliveries each.

Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo Car India, expressed satisfaction with the growth, stating, “The year 2023 has been an impressive year in terms of growth. A 31% growth over the previous year exhibits consumer confidence.”

Highlighting the success of the XC40 Recharge and the positive response to the C40 Recharge, Malhotra emphasized the strong customer interest in the company’s electric models. This success reinforces Volvo’s commitment to launching one new electric vehicle model annually.

The surge in electric vehicle sales aligns with the global trend towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation choices. Volvo’s strategic move to introduce electric models appears well-received in the Indian market.
