Pierre Poilievre, Canada’s main opposition leader and a potential successor to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has criticized the treatment of the Canadian prime minister during the recent Delhi G20 Summit. Poilievre humorously remarked that no Canadian would want to see their prime minister repeatedly humiliated and trampled upon by the rest of the world.

Putting aside political partisanship, Poilievre commented on X (formerly Twitter) in response to a Toronto Sun article titled “THIS WAY OUT,” which featured a photo of Trudeau with his Indian counterpart and G20 host, Narendra Modi. In the photo, the two leaders are shaking hands, with Trudeau looking into the camera while Modi appears to be pointing to something else.

During the G20 Summit, reports emerged suggesting that Trudeau, who has been in office since 2015 and is currently in his third term as prime minister, faced challenges and was not granted the same level of attention as some other world leaders. While several heads of state and government, including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, engaged in bilateral meetings with Modi on the sidelines of the summit, Canada was reportedly only granted a ‘pull aside’ meeting.

During this meeting, Prime Minister Modi raised concerns about Khalistani extremism in Canada and threats of violence against Indian diplomats by Khalistani extremists, while Prime Minister Trudeau discussed allegations of India’s interference in Canada. Additionally, the Canadian delegation’s departure was delayed by a few hours due to a technical issue with their aircraft before they could leave.
