In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remotely inaugurated the 17-kilometer extension of the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, spanning from Duhai to Modi Nagar North on Wednesday. The inauguration took place during PM Modi’s visit to West Bengal, where he virtually launched the new section and flagged off the Namo Bharat train from the Muradnagar RRTS station.
The extended section includes three stations: Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar South, and Modi Nagar North. With this addition, the Namo Bharat services will seamlessly cover 34 kilometers of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, incorporating eight stations from Sahibabad to Modinagar North.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, measuring 82 kilometers, is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut to under an hour. The newly inaugurated 17-kilometer stretch expands the operational coverage of the corridor, enhancing regional connectivity and providing more convenient commuting options within the area.
Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for India’s first RRTS corridor connecting Delhi to Meerut in March 2019. Passenger operations commenced in October 2023, accompanied by the flagging off of the Namo Bharat RapidX train.
The RRTS boasts a design speed of 180 kilometers per hour and an operational speed of 160 kilometers per hour, making it a crucial infrastructure project for improving transportation in the National Capital Region.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also attended the virtual inauguration ceremony. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and promoting seamless commuting options for the public.
