A confrontation erupted between farmers and police outside a construction site of a thermal power project in Chausa, Buxar. The farmers were protesting with their demands when clashes ensued with the police. Lathi charge was deployed against the demonstrators, and police vehicles were damaged in the scuffle. Several protesters have been detained, and senior police officials, along with reinforcements from nearby stations, are present at the scene.
According to reports, farmers had been staging a sit-in protest for the past 11 days outside the gates of the under-construction thermal power plant, demanding compensation among other grievances. The situation escalated on Wednesday when a team from the district administration, accompanied by police personnel, attempted to disperse the protesters, resulting in the outbreak of clashes.
In the skirmish, police vehicles were also targeted by the protesters, with several of them sustaining damage. A bus driver was injured due to stone pelting by the demonstrators. Upon receiving information about the incident, District Magistrate Anshul Agrawal, Police Superintendent Manish Kumar, and other senior officers rushed to the spot. Some protesters have been taken into custody by the police.
The standoff underscores the simmering tensions between the farmers and authorities over their demands, particularly concerning compensation issues.
