In a significant development, Shambhu Kumar, the then-in-charge of Chennari Police Station, has been dismissed from service following his alleged involvement in the infamous black buck poaching case that stirred Sasaram. The incident, which took place on September 17, 2023, saw the Forest Department seize a Scorpio vehicle in the vicinity of Chennari Police Station, containing a black buck’s horn and five kilograms of meat.
The investigation into the matter led to the suspension of Shambhu Kumar-2, the officer in charge at the time. Following an in-depth inquiry, the Shahabad district’s Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Navin Chandra Jha, issued Shambhu Kumar-2’s dismissal from service, effective from February 1.
In a press conference held on Friday, the DIG provided detailed insights into the case. He revealed that based on confidential information received on September 15, 2023, at 4:30 PM, Raju Beg, a resident of Lanji village in Rohtas district, was apprehended with black buck meat, horn, and a Scorpio vehicle. However, despite Raju Beg being brought to the station, no legal action was taken against him, and he was released. Additionally, the information was not shared with higher authorities, and Raju Beg was released without any charges, raising questions about the handling of the case.
The subsequent investigation by the Forest Department, two days later on September 17, led to the recovery of black buck meat and a horn from a Scorpio vehicle at Chennari Police Station premises. The Assistant District Police Officer (ADPO) conducted an inquiry, and based on their report, the ASP suspended Shambhu Kumar-2, initiating departmental proceedings numbered 140/23. Seven individuals, including Shambhu Kumar, were implicated in the case by the Forest Department.
Following the investigation’s findings, SP Vinit Kumar ordered an inquiry by the Sasaram SDPO. The inquiry found Shambhu Kumar-2 guilty of negligence, indiscipline, suspicious conduct, corruption, and unethical use of his position for personal gain. Consequently, he was promptly dismissed from service.
The DIG emphasized that a thorough investigation had been conducted into the entire case. Shambhu Kumar’s dismissal reflects a commitment to maintaining zero tolerance for corruption within the Bihar Police force, as asserted by the DIG during the press conference.
