New Delhi, In a significant development towards finalizing the estimated Rs 50,000 crore deal, France has officially submitted its bid for the sale of 26 Rafale-Marine fighter jets to India. The detailed letter of acceptance (LoA) includes the offer, pricing details, and other specifications. This move follows India’s letter of request (LoA) issued in mid-October for the acquisition of 22 single-seat jets and four twin-seat trainers, along with associated equipment such as weapons, simulator, spares, crew training, and logistics support.

The preliminary approval for the deals, totaling 26 fighters and three additional Scorpene submarines for approximately Rs 30,000 crore, was granted by the Defence Acquisitions Council led by Rajnath Singh on July 13. However, the finalization of the government-to-government deal for the Rafales, manufactured by Dassault Aviation, awaits completion of cost negotiations and approval from the Cabinet Committee on Security.

The Indian Navy, grappling with a shortage of fighters for its aircraft carriers, is keen on expediting the agreements within this fiscal year. The French Rafale holds a logistical advantage, having already been inducted into the Indian Air Force under a previous deal inked in September 2016.

Stay tuned for further updates on this crucial defence procurement.
