The impending G20 summit, slated to grace Delhi next month, heralds a series of extensive arrangements and anticipated inconveniences for the metropolis. Scheduled for September 9 and 10, this high-profile event is set to transpire at the newly-constructed Bharat Mandapam convention center within Delhi’s Pragati Maidan, serving as a centerpiece of India’s presidency.

In light of the distinguished international guests’ impending arrival, both central and Delhi governments have taken a decisive step, declaring a public holiday from September 8 to 10. This strategic measure aims to facilitate the seamless progression of this paramount gathering of world leaders. Notably, prominent statespersons such as US President Joe Biden, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and French President Emmanuel Macron, among others, are anticipated to grace the G20 Leaders’ Summit with their presence.

However, the implications of such a prestigious assembly extend beyond the ceremonial. To accommodate the inflow of dignitaries, commercial banks, financial institutions, and private offices within the purview of the New Delhi Police District shall observe public holidays. This calculated hiatus aims to ensure the summit’s unimpeded flow and security.

The G20 summit’s security apparatus is as elaborate as it is comprehensive. The Delhi Police have meticulously orchestrated the deployment of over 450 quick response teams (QRTs), PCR vans, and more than 50 ambulances and fire-fighting units. Notably, a fleet of 23 designated hotels, Pragati Maidan, Rajghat, and the prescribed routes for dignitaries and delegates is under constant surveillance. To bolster preparedness, seven disaster management teams have strategically positioned themselves in key locales.

With a keen focus on gender diversity, the force has gone the extra mile, providing specialized training to women commandos. Their deployment, customized to the needs of the event, embodies the Delhi Police’s commitment to an inclusive approach in safeguarding this international congregation.

While the G20 summit promises to be an extraordinary event of global significance, the meticulous orchestrations and calculated disruptions accompanying it signify Delhi’s integral role in hosting such distinguished statespersons.
