BEIRUT: Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, engaged in discussions with Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, as tensions escalate in the region. Hezbollah, in a statement, disclosed that the leaders “reviewed the latest developments in Palestine, Lebanon, and the region, and discussed the efforts made to end the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.”
Expressing concerns over the situation potentially spiraling out of control, Amir-Abdollahian departed Beirut for Doha after the meeting, as reported by Iran’s Nour news agency.
On Thursday morning, Hezbollah announced the launch of 48 Katyusha rockets at a military base near Safed in northern Israel, approximately 10 kilometers from the border. The group claimed at least 10 additional attacks on Israeli positions near the frontier, asserting to have caused casualties.
In response, the Israeli army shelled several locations in southern Lebanon, resulting in casualties, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.
Hezbollah also confirmed the death of five of its fighters, including Abbas Raad, the son of Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc head, Mohammed Raad. The group stated that Abbas Raad was “martyred on the road to Jerusalem” and provided identities and photographs of the other four fighters killed.
Sources close to the family reported that Abbas Raad, along with other Hezbollah members, lost his life in an Israeli strike on a house in Beit Yahun, south Lebanon.
Lebanon’s National News Agency previously reported an Israeli airstrike on a house in Beit Yahun, resulting in four casualties, without identifying the victims.
