In a startling revelation, Pakistan’s current caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, has come under scrutiny for an old tweet in which he expressed a desire to see all Hindus convert to Islam. The tweet, dated back to 2020, has resurfaced, causing widespread concern and outrage.
Pakistan, a nation with a history marked by persecution and discrimination against religious minorities, particularly Hindus, currently finds itself under the leadership of Anwaar ul Haq Kakar. His tweet, which recently went viral, suggests a long-standing ambition among some individuals in power.
The controversial tweet from Kakar reads, “We are waiting for all Hindus to be persuaded to the enlightening truth of Islam; we will wait for a millennium, no hurry.” This statement came in response to an Indian Twitter user’s claim that Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Pakistan’s founding leader, was a Kafir.

While such a sentiment coming from a sitting senator, now serving as the caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, may be considered shocking in other parts of the world, it sadly aligns with a pattern in Pakistan where thoughts and desires like these are not uncommon.
The decline in the Hindu population in Pakistan since its partition with India has been a matter of concern. Reports of girls being abducted, forcibly converted to Islam, and married off to their abductors have become distressingly routine.
Regrettably, it is not surprising that Pakistani Hindus have faced persistent adversity and institutionalized discrimination, given the ideological stance of some in positions of power.
As a senator, Kakar had previously downplayed incidents of forced conversions of Hindu girls in Pakistan, suggesting that there was a degree of willingness on their part. This stance now raises questions about his response to the plight of Hindus in his country.
With politicians like Kakar in leadership roles, the Hindu community in Pakistan appears to have limited expectations of receiving legal protection or government intervention in addressing their concerns.*
