Sudha Murthy, chairperson of Infosys Foundation, nominated to Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, Sudha Murthy, renowned author and Chairperson of Infosys Foundation, has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Draupadi Murmu. The news was shared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his social media platform.

Expressing his delight, PM Modi acknowledged Sudha Murthy’s significant contributions to various fields, including social work, philanthropy, and education. He praised her for being an unparalleled and inspirational force in diverse sectors. PM Modi emphasized that Sudha Murthy’s presence in the Rajya Sabha is a powerful testament to women’s strength, showcasing the capability and empowerment of women in shaping the destiny of the country.

Sudha Murthy, aged 73, is an engineer and prolific author, honored with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards. In response to her nomination, she stated that she is currently not in the country but expressed gratitude for the honor received on International Women’s Day. Sudha Murthy is recognized for her outstanding contributions to business as well. In a TV interview, she shared the entire story of establishing Infosys with her husband, Narayan Murthy, and even provided financial support by lending Rs 10,000 when the family was struggling financially.

Sudha Murthy and Narayan Murthy have two daughters. Akshata Murthy, their daughter, is a fashion designer and the wife of the current British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak. Their son, Rohan Murthy, is the owner of Soroco, a US-based software development firm. Rohan has also established the Murty Classical Library of India, contributing to the preservation of classical Sanskrit texts.

The Murthy family has extended their influence globally through various endeavors, embodying a combination of entrepreneurship, literature, and philanthropy. Sudha Murthy’s nomination to the Rajya Sabha further marks her significant role in shaping the socio-economic landscape of India.
