In a groundbreaking move reminiscent of the Titanic submersible expedition, the Gujarat government is set to pioneer submarine tourism. An imminent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mazgaon Dockyard Limited (MDL) marks the state’s commitment to acquire a submarine for unique underwater experiences around Bet Dwarka, an island off the coast of Dwarka, and the submerged city of Dwarka in the Arabian Sea, believed to be created by Lord Krishna.

The official announcement regarding this ambitious submarine tourism project is anticipated during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit scheduled for January 10 next year in Gandhinagar.

The collaborative effort between the Gujarat government and MDL aims to develop a 35-tonne submarine with a capacity for 30 passengers. The submarine will offer an extraordinary view of the sea at a depth of 300 feet, with 24 passengers seated in two rows, each with a window view. MDL Chairman and Managing Director, Sanjeev Singhal, stated that while the MoU is signed, actual construction awaits the final decision of the state government.

The lost city of Dwarka, steeped in Hindu mythology and archaeology, has long been a subject of exploration. The submarine tourism project not only promises to reshape Gujarat’s tourism but also holds the potential to generate employment and attract investments to the region.

Dwarka remains a popular center for spiritual pilgrimage, with its famous Dwarkadhish Temple, also known as Jagat Mandir, standing as a prominent place of worship and landmark. The initiative to introduce submarine tourism adds a new dimension to Gujarat’s cultural and historical significance.

The submarine tourism project is poised to unlock the mysteries of Dwarka’s submerged past, offering a unique blend of history, mythology, and tourism in the heart of Gujarat.
