Patna, Weather experts have issued a heat wave alert for Bihar as temperatures are expected to soar in the next five days. The mercury has already crossed 44 degrees Celsius, with forecasts indicating a further rise of two to three degrees. Consequently, concerns about heatstroke have intensified.

Children and Elderly Advised to Exercise Caution

In response to the weather department’s alert, Bihar’s disaster management department has advised children and the elderly to remain vigilant. With the pre-monsoon activities currently at a standstill, the likelihood of rain has diminished, raising the specter of a heatwave. Experts warn of an increase in temperatures, with the real feel nearing 46-47 degrees Celsius.

Challenges of Venturing Outdoors

The second half of April has seen a rapid increase in temperatures, hovering around 40 degrees Celsius in many cities. While mornings and evenings offer some respite, daytime conditions have become challenging. Sunday witnessed record highs of 44.3 degrees Celsius and lows of 28.0 degrees Celsius, with the real feel nearing 46-47 degrees Celsius.

Tips to Beat the Heat

As Bihar grapples with the heatwave, here are some tips to stay safe:
– Avoid direct exposure to the sun after using air conditioning.
– Refrain from consuming cold water immediately after exposure to the sun; opt for room temperature or lukewarm water instead.
– Minimize outdoor activities during midday hours; if unavoidable, cover your head with a light-colored cloth and wear comfortable clothing.
– Stay hydrated by consuming water, as well as refreshing beverages like mango panna, juice, coconut water, and lemon water.
– Exercise caution when consuming water sold by vendors during this season to prevent the risk of diarrhea and typhoid.

As Bihar braces for scorching temperatures in the coming days, it’s essential to prioritize safety and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the heatwave.
