The hostage situation that unfolded at Hamburg airport, the busiest in northern Germany, has been successfully resolved after an 18-hour ordeal. The suspect, along with his daughter, exited the vehicle and was arrested without any resistance. Fortunately, the child did not appear to be injured.
The incident began around 8 pm local time on Saturday when an armed individual breached a security barrier, gaining access to the tarmac. This intruder fired two shots into the air and threw two incendiary devices from the vehicle. Authorities confirmed that at least two individuals, including a child, were in the car. The wife of the driver took the initiative to alert the police regarding the abduction of her child, suggesting a custody dispute as the potential cause of the operation.
German media reported on Sunday morning that law enforcement had maintained good communication with the perpetrator throughout the situation, a positive sign indicating ongoing negotiations.
The incident caused considerable disruption, affecting approximately 3,200 airline passengers due to delays at the airport.
