New Delhi, The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a fresh spell of moderate rainfall over central and northwest India, including Delhi. A western disturbance is expected to impact Western Himalayan regions in the next 48 hours.

Issuing an orange alert for Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan for Monday and Tuesday, the IMD’s bulletin stated, “A fresh rainfall spell likely over northwest and central India on January 8 and 9.”

The weather department also alerts for thunderstorms and hailstorms in West Madhya Pradesh in the next 24 hours and East Rajasthan on Monday and Tuesday.

IMD Director General M Mohapatra mentioned a temporary rise in temperatures during the rainfall period. After the rain subsides and the western disturbance moves away, temperatures are expected to drop, leading to cold wave conditions in parts of northwest India.

Under the influence of the western disturbance, light isolated rainfall/snowfall is expected over various regions, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

The weather department warns of light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and isolated hailstorms in east Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh.

Additionally, south Peninsular India may experience light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Dense to very dense fog and cold to severe cold day conditions are expected in Northwest India in the next 24 hours, gradually decreasing thereafter.

On Sunday, very dense fog was reported in several regions, and the IMD forecasts its persistence in some areas of Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh from January 7 to 9.

Minimum temperatures range from 6-9°C in certain regions, with variations in maximum temperatures across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.

In conclusion, the IMD advises residents to stay informed about the changing weather conditions and be prepared for the upcoming rainfall and cold spell.
